What is coronavirus (COVID-19)

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness caused by a new virus. Symptoms range from a mild cough to pneumonia. Some people recover easily, others may get very sick very quickly. It spreads from person to person. What we do know is hygiene is paramount.  Read more – good hygiene can prevent infection.

Symptoms of coronavirus

Symptoms range from a mild cough and symptoms similiar to the common cold to more severe symptoms such as pneumonia.

People with coronavirus may experience:

  • fever
  • flu-like symptoms such as coughing, sore throat and fatigue
  • shortness of breath

Treatment

There is no treatment as yet for coronavirus, but medical care can treat most of the symptoms. Antibiotics do not work on viruses.

If you have been diagnosed with coronavirus, isolate yourself in your home.
